Publishing
Saving a string stores it in the editor. Publishing is what gets it into the app.
How you publish depends on how the app gets its Irish (see How It Works).
Apps with a Publish button
Most apps build the Irish in when they are deployed. In these projects the workspace has a Publish button.
- Finish a batch of strings and save them.
- Click Publish. A dialog lists each branch of the app with its site, for example the preview site and the live site.
- Click Publish next to the branch you want. This starts a deploy of that branch, which takes a few minutes. Follow the deploy shows its progress.
- Once the deploy finishes, reload the site to see your Irish.
Good to know:
- Strings you save after a publish starts wait for the next one.
- Publishing only redeploys what is already on that branch. It never changes the app's code.
- Publish once after a batch, not after every string: each publish is a full deploy.
- The Irish also goes out with any deploy that happens anyway, such as a developer's next push to that branch, or a scheduled rebuild if the app has one.
Preview first, then live
If an app has a preview site, publish to the preview branch first and check your work there. The live site gets the same Irish when you publish its branch.
The Irish is tied to the English, not to the branch. So if the live branch has the same English, the Irish you saved while working on the preview site is already there for it.
Apps without a Publish button
Some apps load their Irish live from the editor. For these, a save shows up in the app within about a minute, with nothing else to do.
Why isn't my Irish showing?
- Not published yet: publish the branch, and wait for the deploy to finish.
- Wrong branch: each site shows its own branch. Check you published the branch for the site you are looking at.
- The English differs on that branch: Irish is only used where the English is identical to the English you translated. If a branch still has older English, it shows the Irish written for that older English, or English if there is none.
